This Great Exodus also means there are fewer faces floating around the greens and clubhouse, a fact reflected in the lower than regular numbers nominating for social bowls.
The were still a harder group who dared the conditions especially Angus MacKinnon, Brian Norris and Col Quince who triumphed in last Saturdayís menís social bowls with a final score of 12+14.
This was only just ahead of the 12+10 put in by Bob Kiernan, Al Kenniff and Bill Cullen. A large group of husband and wife teams are familiar faces in the Friday mixed social bowls, but this was not the case last Friday with numbers down as for some couples they prepare for an annual trip to Nelsons Bay.
For Graham Pitt though, he was able to combine with visitor Quentin Kidd to take top money with 10+8, counting out the 10+1 returned by Kerry Clarke, Gloria Clarke and Darrell Campbell.
Big scores were the order of the day in the men’s mid week event when Peter Kearney and Dave Hunter finished with 16+25 for top money.
Angus MacKinnon, Ron Baker and Andy Heatley can think themselves a little hard done by, as their final score of 15+27 would normally romp home as a winning card. However, they had to settle for the second prize.
