“We’re busy all the time but winter is really, really busy and with electricity prices going up and so forth we’ll be hit with a lot of people wanting help with electricity,” president of the St Patrick’s conference of St Vincent de Paul Gary Marshall said.
Mr Marshall said Vinnies’ annual Winter Appeal was off to a strong start but he welcomed more community support.
He encouraged residents to come in store to donate to make sure their money was spent helping those in Lithgow.
Vinnies were also inviting donations of blankets, sheets and non-perishable food however the best way to help was by giving financially.
“Then we can go out and buy what we really need. We speed over $1500 probably every two weeks just on food,” Mr Marshall said.
In a great act of generosity, the Vale Ladies donated $500 worth of blankets to both Vinnies and the Salvation Army last week.
Mr Marshall expressed his deep thanks to the Vale Ladies for their donation.
Salvos volunteers said they were grateful for the ladies’ generosity and had handed already handed out several blankets to people in need.
