Hampton’s Carl Hansen is a junior rugby star on the rise.

The 15-year-old was recently selected to play for the under 15s Country rugby union side – just another step on what he hopes to be his journey to the top.

Hansen could also be described as a young entrepreneur. With the help of sixty chickens he runs a small business, aptly named Carl’s Eggs.

His winged friends lay around five dozen eggs a day which he sells for $5 each to help cover his rugby costs and school fees.

The country representative season will cost Hansen around $1000 after forking out $800 for his Central West commitments.

The idea for Carl’s Eggs came about when Hansen was in year 7.

"We were doing an agriculture project and I thought I can make money out of doing eggs so I went along with it."

He said he cares for his chickens "a lot".

"They are the soul of me," he said with a chuckle.

Hansen and his father Tim are selling raffle tickets for a Wallabies and Waratahs jersey at R&K Gas Supplies Lithgow where you will also be able to purchase Carl’s Eggs.
