The past met the present at Portland on Saturday, as the Colts and the Wallerawang Warriors gathered together for an Old Boys match in conjunction with their New Era Cup round.

Wallerawang claimed easy wins in the rugby league and league tag competitions, while it was anyone’s guess in the Old Boys' match as all the members of both teams invaded the field in the last five minutes for a free-for-all.
The results of New Era Midwest Cup round-eight matches confirmed Wallerawang Warriors’ top-of-the-table status with the Warriors’ second shut-out of their opposition in two weeks.
In the local derby against Portland Colts, 14 unanswered tries have given Wallerawang 138 points in just their last two games – while scoring at least a half-century in each of their last four games.
The final score was 82-0.
Winger Ben Beecroft scored try number one in the opening minutes, with centre Dave Howard contributing four, but the total number of 14 gave goalkicker Josh Howarth the opportunity to add to his already impressive 2017 total of successful conversions.
Nick Bender scored two tries and Nathan Redding three as Wallerawang ran over the top of Portland.
The tries were evenly spread among the Wallerawang team, with Luke Barnes, Darren Monds, Ben Beecroft, Ryan Gurney and Trent Sutherland all running one in.
Young players made their mark, combining well with their experienced teammates to make some great tries.
The Warriors crew thanked their coaches and committee for all their time and effort and all the sponsors who have supported them through this first half of the season.
Into the second half, undefeated Wallerawang lead the competition ladder with 16 points, followed by CSU on 14 and Villages United on 12.
The Warriors will host the Barbarians this week. Warriettes kick off at 1pm and Warriors at 2.30pm. The Warriors would like to thank all the lovely people from Can Assist for their help with the canteen and on the gate.
