The Bears league tag came out with a win against Orange Barbarians with a score of 14-4 while the Bears players and supporters were on their feet as the Bears rugby league team went down by one try for a final score of 20-24.
The Bears league tag had a massive win against Orange Barbarians, with the Bears now jumping ahead of the Barbarians, leaving them at the bottom of the ladder alone on no points.
Both teams started the game on even grounds. The refs were from Cowra and had no relationship with any player on the field or had refereed either team before the day.
Orange Barbarians scored first but were unfortunate with the conversion. Right before the half time bell Orange knocked the ball forward to allow the Bears to play the ball 20m out from the try line.
With some quick plays Ash Northey went over the line between the Orange players, after the third tag. The conversion was unsuccessful.
It was 4-all draw at half time, with some positive words from the Bears coach Ricey, the Bears entered the field with a quick try from the Orange kick-off with Shanaya Callaghan making a run. She weaved out of the Orange defence from the halfway mark to score a try under the posts.
The Bears didn’t stop there. Nichole Strain got a break and ran in for another try under the goal posts. Jasmine Spittles also kicked a successful conversion. The Bears defensive line stopped Orange from going anywhere but backwards.
This week the points from the crowd went to Ash Northey (3), Jade Thomas (2) and Clare Larkin (1). Players’ player this week to Ashlee Northey.
This week the ref points went to three Bears players; Nichole Strain (3), Zoe Biles (2) and Tamika Kelly (1). Congratulations, girls, on an amazing game and keep up the hard work.
The Lithgow Bears narrowly missed winning the game against Orange Barbarians this week with 4 points separating the two teams. The Bears had a good turnout of players this week with all 22 players utilised.
This was a close game from start to finish but the Orange Barbarians picked up the two points. The first try for the game was Bears player Brenton Dunn who stormed through the Orange defensive line.
Kaleb Ritchie then ran in and busted the Orange players for a try. Warren Stevens used his skills and also scored a try.
The last try of the game was Bears winger Jack Bilby. Blake Collins successfully converted 2 out of the 4 tries.
With less than 40 seconds on the clock left off the game the Bears were 10m out from the try line.
Going from side to side Orange didn’t give in to the Bears and held them out until the final bell rang. Points this week went to Brenton Dunn (3), Cody Duncan (2) and Ryan Bilby (1). Players player points this week went to Zach Jones with Brett Frazer picking up 2 points from the referee.
This Saturday, June 24 the Bears take on Villages United at the Lithgow showground. League Tag starts at 1.30pm.
