Loopers are the champions of the Lithgow Table Tennis Association winter competition following a relatively comfortable grand final victory over Grippers.

Loopers, who struggled for most of the season and scraped into fourth place, found a rich vein of form during the finals and vanquished the three teams that finished equal minor premiers one after the other.
Loopers started the grand final in solid fashion, winning the opening two rubbers to take a 4-1 lead and they would never trail.
Grippers closed the gap to be 6-5 down nearing the mid-point but a 6-1 Loopers run took them out to a commanding 12-6 advantage.
Loopers had one foot in the door to victory but Grippers held it shut momentarily by winning the next rubber 2-0 to still be a chance at 12-8.
Loopers ended it there, however, taking the last singles rubber two games to nil to close out a 14-8 championship win.
Michael Wood was the hero for Loopers, turning in a 6-2 result.
Good support came from Mark McAulay and Peter Jaccoud with 5-2 and 3-4 records respectively.
Matt Kappos was the only Gripper to produce a positive result, going a creditable 5-3. Lou Kappos (3-5) had an up-and-down night, losing a few close games and a couple by larger margins, while Kelly Gurney, playing a grand final in her first season back after a long lay-off, struggled on the night and finished 0-6.
The association will hold practice nights from next week with a view to commencing the next competition in mid-July.
New and current players are encouraged to attend. Play commences at 7.15pm on Wednesday nights at the Old Trades Hall (down the lane next to Waratah Dental in Railway Parade).
