Well, that’s no mystery as Lithgow recorded its coldest morning on Tuesday, May 30, since August last year.
“This is definitely the coldest morning for this year and depending on the next decimal, the coldest morning since August or July last year,” Kim Westcott, meteorologist at Weatherzone said.
The chill factor really hit after 2am when the temperature began to drop below zero.
The Mt Boyce weather station’s coldest recording for the morning was -0.9 degrees, while another station in Lithgow recorded -4 degrees.
Ms Westcott said the Mt Boyce reading is more reliable.
“It was almost minus one degree, so that’s seven degrees under the average for May.”
There will be less of a chill over the next few days.
“But it is going to be cold because several cold fronts have just passed through Lithgow. It will be sunny, which is the icing on the cake.”
“Most of the stations are looking like the morning of Sunday, June 4, at being that cold again.”
