‘Starlight’, published under the pen-name C.A. Taylor is Ms Taylor’s first novel in a series she has titled ‘The Blunderbuss Chronicles’.
“I started to write to help cope with depression. It was a positive outlet,” she said.
Her first attempt was going to be entered as part of last year’s Ironfest writing competition, but she held it back. The mother of two said she did not have the confidence to put it out there.
But, armed with a finished draft earlier this year, she put a call out for an editor who helped prepare her novel, which is set in the US, for self-publication.
The story follows a young woman who is forced out of the army after surviving a brutal attack by her senior officer. She is offered the opportunity to seek revenge.
“It explores a lot of rape culture aspects, which can be quite confronting,” she said.
“But I feel it’s an important issue.”
Ms Taylor has already completed a draft for her second book in the series, titled ‘Chandelier’, which follows Alexis’ sister.
“My goal is to publish two books in one year.” she said.
She hopes the Blunderbuss Chronicles will have six parts.
The book is available through Amazon online, iBooks or in paperback at A Reader’s Heaven.
