Portland women’s bowlers celebrated their 65th birthday on Wednesday, May 17 and the weather came to the occasion producing a glorious Autumn day.

Women bowlers from all around the region including Bathurst, Lithgow, Hazelbrook, Lawson, Wallerawang, Oberon and Portland all gathered on the Portland bowling green for 16 ends of bowls.
The day was was full of fun and enjoyment.
The Bathurst City team took out the win and the runners up were the Portland team of A O’Brien, N Bannon and J Millmore.
Following the bowls the teams retired to the club house for lunch and the formalities.
Portland women’s president Elsie Kirkwood presented the official welcome and cut the birthday cake alongside patron Joyce Williams and Western District president Jean Wilde.
At the end of the day the group sung the national anthem and Elsie Kirkwood wished everyone a safe trip home.
