Both the men and women’s side have had knocks to their track record in 2017, but are showing strength in a building season.
It was 4-1 to the Lithgow Panthers men’s side at the end of the first half of their home game on Saturday, May 20.
What looked salvageable for the opposition really went south during the second half against the Panthers.
Within ten minutes of play in the second stanza the Panthers upped their takings by three points.
The Souths did not back down completely scoring their second, and final, point for the game.
Taylor Dobel, whose play was outstanding, got another ball against the net.
The game ended in a strong 9-2 win to the Panthers. Taylor Dobel scored three goals, Brandon Horner three goals, Nick Milne two and Jake Lewis one.
“I am absolutely stoked,” said Panthers coach David Marshall.
“To beat one of the top sides 9-2, I think we really dominated most of the game.”
Mr Marshall said it was “a bit too early” to predict Panthers entry into the grand final.
Panthers women’s side matched the men’s effort and more with an 11-2 win against the Souths.
Abby Wilson came back to the fold and scored a whopping five goals.
“She was really good,” said Panthers player Jess Luchetti.
“Emily Thompson, Millie Leard and Courtney Hogan also played really well.”
The women’s side is looking to get back on top after losses to St Pat’s and Bathurst City.
The Zig Zag men’s side remains a strong contender in the Premier League after Bathurst City forfeited its game on Saturday.
Zig Zag will meet St Pat’s next round, who beat the Panthers in round two, for a match that may give some insight into later rounds of the league.
Zig Zag women fell afoul to Bathurst City who beat them 9-1, Bathurst City’s biggest win against the Lithgow side for a decade.
Young goalkeeper Bree Rigby made a smart glove save 75 seconds out from half-time to deny Tirah Jarvis and in the second period she produced a double block for her team.
Dannie Lemckie made a bright point for the team scoring their sole goal in the last fifteen minutes of the match.
Zig Zag women’s side have had a tough fortnight after being pushed out of the top four of the league by a close loss to the Orange Confederates in round three.
