Weatherzone meteorologist Samuel Terry estimates Lithgow will be waking to a crisp 1 degree on Thursday morning, April 27.
“The synoptic situation is that there is quite a vigorous cold front moving through NSW at the moment. We have already seen it bring cold weather and gale force winds in Victoria and Tasmania.”
Mr Terry said the winds would be more mild in Lithgow.
“It will cool down tonight significantly bringing 1 degree temperatures on Thursday and possibly Friday morning. Tomorrow will be the coldest morning since last November. There will be frost developing.
“We will see a wind change this afternoon turning from north-westerly to south-westerly and we might see some more rain, around 2-5 millilitres and another storm.
“We’ve already picked up 3 millilitres in Bathurst.”
Rather than being a ‘cold snap’ into more wintry weather, Mr Terry said Lithgow temperatures would return to the April average of 18 degrees by Monday, May 1.
“Of course things can change but in the long range forecast we are looking at another cold snap next Wednesday (May 3) and then a return to milder conditions.
“A long period of cold is not quite here yet. I would guess it will come half way through May. But these cold snaps will be getting more frequent after the first one that occurred on April 10th.”
Mr Terry said this afternoon’s cold front will be followed by a high pressure ridge that promises clear but cold weather on Thursday, April 27.
