The hall, located in Blackheath, has served the the 1st Blackheath Scout Groups for years and was also a Sunday school for over 50 years before it moved to its current location.
Group manager Russell Brown had heard of the NSW Correctional Centres’ Community Projects scheme and thought it would be great to have inmates help repaint the scout hall.
The scheme allows a number of carefully selected minimum security inmates to help the community under the supervision of an officer.
They have made a difference in locations such as Yetholme, Portland, Rydal, Wallerawang, Sunny Corner and Lithgow.
The inmates from Kirkconnell Correctional Centre embraced the challenge of preparing the hall for painting.
It was pressure cleaned, sanded and undercoated before they put two top coats of paint onto to the building.
They hope the work can help keep the scout hall standing and serving the community for another 100 years.
The Community Projects scheme also sees inmates from Kirkconnell maintain the grounds of a number of churches, Rural Fire Service brigades and parks in the area.
Kirkconnell is a minimum security facility for male offenders located between Lithgow and Bathurst.
Inmates can participate in projects at the invitation of community groups.
