Large crowds turned out for the annual Anzac Day commemorations held throughout the district on Tuesday, April 25.
Marches, morning teas, services (at dawn and throughout the day) and lunches were the order of the day as veterans, their families and their communities came together to honour those who have served Australia.
A large contingent gathered in Lithgow’s Main Street at 10.30am for the annual march. This followed a very successful dawn service that was likely the biggest ever for Lithgow at 6am.
The rain held off for the dawn service, the march and the Lithgow service, much to the crowd’s relief.
Participants included veterans, their family members, schools, volunteer organisations and community groups as well as armoured vehicles.
The procession led to Queen Elizabeth Park for an 11am service and wreath-laying.
In Portland, the action began early with a 6am service, followed by a breakfast at the Portland RSL Sports and Recreation Club.
Portland’s general Anzac parade was held at 11am, featuring a strong contingent of young participants.
Wallerawang hosted a march and 9am service in front of the town’s cenotaph.
