It was a clear, mild morning when hundreds turned out for the Lithgow Dawn Service at Queen Elizabeth Park on Tuesday, April 25.

Clouds gathered after the service and some rain fell, but it was after the crowds had dispersed.
Guest speaker, Royal Australia Navy Captain Peter Mingay, spoke about some of the contributions and sacrifices made by Australia’s navy in World War II, 75 years ago.
“The Battle of the Coral Sea was significant as as a strategic victory for the Allies. It marked the closest approach of hostile naval forces in strength to our coastline,
“It broke the long series of Japanese victories and it showed that the Imperial Japanese naval could be defeated.”
Lithgow City RSL sub-branch president Ron Murphy was very pleased with the turn out for the Dawn Service.
“It keeps getting bigger,” he said.
