The Wallerawang Warriors have kicked off their New Era Cup season with a strong 28-10 win over close rivals Portland Colts.

The big Wallerawang side started the stronger of the two sides to lead 16-10 at the break.
Portland’s resistance fell away from the start of the second-half with an error off the kick-off putting Wallerawang straight on the attack.
The Warriors ran away with the game as the errors piled up for the Colts.
Wallerawang’s Dave Howard was dangerous with every carry with the ball and the centre finished with two tries.
He was joined on the score-sheet by Wes Monds, Nick Bender and Josh Howarth. Howarth also had a great day with the boot, kicking four from five.
Players player for the Colts was Trent Anderson and Evan Carter, Harley Osland and Tom Hollis also had strong games.
Portland’s Harley Osland also chipped in with two tries.
The Warriettes League Tag side gave Wallerawang the double with their 12-0 victory over the Portland Fillies.
The match was tight throughout with only one try scored in each half.
Wallerawang’s Megan Embleton was the star as she scored all the Warriettes points with two tries and two goals.
Despite the loss, Fillies captain-coach Sarina Griffiths said she couldn’t be happier with her side’s effort in round one.
