Lithgow’s premier basketball side suffered a major setback when John Fenton injured his knee in the warm-up, and was ruled out of the game.
Fenton has been the standout player across the league this season with his defence, rebounding and ability to play strong under the basket.
He has also been averaging close 20 points a game.
Nevertheless the Lazers were a determined unit on the night.
Kurt Northey (7 points) put in a great performance, with strong rebounding at both ends of the court. He was assisted by Addison Flynn (21 points) scoring some strong baskets.
The Lazers got the better of their opponents early to take a 21-10 lead into quarter-time.
The second quarter saw the Razorbacks settle down and start to put their game together. They were helped along by the Lazers who contributed unnecessary turnovers as they failed to control the ball under pressure.
The Razorbacks took advantage to steal the lead and go into half-time ahead by two points.
The experienced players from Liverpool-Macarthur then took full control in the third period with some very accurate outside shooting, taking the quarter 27-17.
In the final quarter, Lazers captain-coach Adam Marjoram (17 points) downed four vital three-pointers, but it wasn’t enough as Lithgow fell short by 13 points.
Michael Cox (13 points) is starting to find the form he is known for and younger players Michael Brooks and Kobe Hunter did not disappoint when injected into the game.
Ben Newham was also great on the boards.
The Lazers will be looking to focus on their ball control and on-court discipline to get their season back on track.
Lithgow take on the Queanbeyan Yowies at home on Saturday at 6pm.
