The skeletal remains were discovered by a bushwalker in dense bushland.
Due to the terrain, the remains were extracted by Blue Mountains police the following morning, said Detective Acting Inspector James Allen.
“Identification of the remains are not possible at this time; however, the death is not being treated as suspicious,” he said.
Inquiries continue to establish the identity of the remains and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
