The mural, created by Lithgow artist Bob Sutor, represents aspects of the local indigenous community, featuring the Wiradjuri totem animal the goanna and a platypus, for the preschool’s place by the water.
Preschool director Luke Touhill said it was hoped the mural would help to build relationships between the preschool and the Aboriginal community. About 15 per cent of the preschool’s students identify as Aboriginal.
“We hope that the community will find it welcoming,” Mr Touhill said.
“It has certainly brightened up the front of the building and added some colour.”
The artist, Mr Sutor, will be at the opening of the work on Wednesday, March 29 and is expected to speak about the significance of the design.
The work was funded with generous contributions from Lithgow Workies, Lithgow Council, Family First Credit Union and the Portland Art Society.
