Every evening after work Usman has been pounding the pavement and door-knocking to help raise funds for the annual appeal.
For the first time this year, Usman has been using the internet to help him raise funds, aiming for his highest ever target of $2000.
So far he is almost half way to his goal, drawing support from local people and friends and family in other locations.
“I find that people generally want to be generous but they sometimes don’t have cash,” he said.
“That is why online works well, it’s proving to be a good idea.”
Usman has been joined in his efforts by his wife, Attia-Tull-Karim Mahmood, and his brother, who is based in Hobart.
Usman and his brother Qasim have formed a group, 'Muslim for Peace' to support the Red Cross Appeal.
