A group of fourteen Japanese exchange students are exploring a whole new world in Lithgow, far away from their homes in the Chiba prefecture near Tokyo.

The senior school students from Kashiwai High School arrived on Sunday and will be staying in town until next Tuesday.
They have linked up with La Salle Academy and are living with local families for the duration of their visit.
The exchange students will also spend some time seeing the sights our region has to offer including Jenolan Caves.
La Salle Japanese teacher, Peter White said these opportunities are about expanding the horizons of students from both schools.
The exchange students are given invaluable experience learning about Australian culture and students from La Salle are given more exposure to Japanese languages and the wider global community.
More Japanese exchange students from TOKE High School will be staying with La Salle Academy in August.
Seven La Salle students will also return the favour when they visit Japan in September.
They will be joined by 14 students from St. Raphael’s in Cowra on a 12 day tour around Kyoto, Osaka, Nara and a two day homestay in Hiroshima with Japanese host families.
