The Lithgow locals are approaching on 60 years together as a married couple and will celebrate their Diamond anniversary on March 2.
But some have asked if the couple are actually married.
The question is tongue-in-cheek as all of the couple’s wedding guests were not able to hear any of the proceedings of the service.
On that day in 1957, St Paul's Anglican Church was battered by hail and rain.
The hail was so loud that Ron's brother Jack, his best man, was forced to lip read the service even though he was no more than two metres away from the husband and wife-to-be.
"Where we went to go sign the register, that was just a wall of water coming down there inside the church," said Ron.
After that initial hiccup, the couple have always held strongly to their life-long commitment to each other.
"As the service says, 'let no man put us under'. It means to not let any person come between us," said Ron.
Doreen also expressed how love, respect and the couple’s faith in God have been central to their marriage.
They have three children, Garry, Kim and Beverley.
They also have five grandchildren, Brendan, Jessica, Matthew, Chad and Todd along with one great-grandchild Blair.
"We couldn't ask for better parents," said daughter Beverley.
"They've been so good to us through the years, helped out with everything and always been there when we needed to ask questions and they've just been really good."
Ron and Doreen will celebrate their Diamond anniversary at Black and Gold Cabins on Thursday night. Family members will be coming from as far away as Queensland for the occasion.
