Not all bad news
LOTS of concerned chatter in recent days surrounding the fact that there are now five empty shops within metres of each other on what traditionally was the busiest block of Lithgow's Main Street. But before we plunge into doom and gloom we need a reality check.

Two of the five shops are only vacant because the businesses relocated to new premises. Another old established business closed following the sudden death of its owner. Another had a rather strange business model - it was rarely open.
So that leaves just one, a noodle parlour whose operators packed up and moved on.
Admittedly there will be another loss when Regency Jewellers shuts its doors but the overall picture is not as dire as some would assume - at least while we support our local retailers wherever possible.
What now?
ON that subject we're still wondering what's happening, if anything, on the Lithgow CBD rejuvenation program.
The council is sitting on a hefty government grant for the project so funding can't be the main problem.
Raw art appreciation
SEEMS you have to have more physical attributes than just a good eye to appreciate art these days. Recently the esteemed Art Gallery of NSW raised a few eyebrows when it hosted a naked evening session to coincide with the exhibition of nude masterpieces from the world's leading galleries.
Just leave your inhibitions with your clothes (and cameras) at the door. Now the Museum of Contemporary Art at Circular Quay is getting in on the act with a naked breakfast viewing of its exhibition but this time for women only.
Bit of sexism there but judging by some of the past 'art' the column has observed at the MCA some of the girls' tatts might be the most artistic thing on display. Wonder if our prestigious Portland Art Exhibition (coming next month) has caught up with this trend.
Showtime
SPEAKING of 'show' time, Lithgow Show is just weeks away. Time to start thinking about what you can do to help. Take a photo maybe, bake a cake, or get creative with some arts and crafts. The opportunities are endless and you could finish up on the showtime hall of fame.
