"Overall it was a great carnival with the achievement of all the kids from Lithgow, 12 of them possibly going to state, our biggest number of kids ever,” said club treasurer and coach, Michelle Sharp.
"Previous years, we've seen possibly four or five children go to state but this year has been much better."
The state championships will be taking place in Homebush in March and Sharp said Lithgow’s athletes will be able to hold their own.
"They're up against huge competition… I think anything can happen really if they just do a little bit more training and see what happens,” said Sharp.
"There could be a couple of kids on the podium in Sydney."
The club’s best hopes will be 14-year-old Luke Thompson who has previously been the state champion in hurdles and young Bella Wells who broke the record for shot put in Dubbo.
Sharp said the results point to a positive future for Lithgow Athletics Club.
"Lithgow has great athletes, they really do."
"I've been training them every Wednesday. They're all very excited and happy that I've done that and want me to keep continuing it because you can see the results."
