Whilst I leave behind my work with the Local Government portfolio, I am proud of the positive changes made and will continue to work closely with the NSW Government to deliver the best possible outcomes for our communities and rate payers across the Electorate.
The racing portfolio brings some exciting challenges with the role – more than 90,214 people participate directly within the NSW racing industry as employees, participants and volunteers, contributing over $3.3 billion to the state’s economy.
I look forward to working with trainers, breeders, owners, boards and committees to ensure this industry runs to the highest of standards and ethics, ensuring its viability in NSW.
We have some work to do, but I look forward to being part of the process and making some positive changes.
Forestry is an exciting industry that is sustaining jobs growth in NSW, contributing $2.4 billion to the economy and employing around 22,000 people.
These figures are increasing due to the growing demand to support the record housing boom and population growth across NSW.
With the industry increasing within our very own electorate, I am keen to have a positive impact on policy and working with our local operations to ensure the sustainability of the industry.
Bush Fire Ready
The hot, dry weather brings about the most dangerous time for fires in our area.
As well as ensuring you have buffer zones, clear gutters / debris removed near houses, sheds and other structures, you need to have a plan for if and when fire starts.
As well as minimising your risks with safety measures, be sure to visit the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) website and download a Bush Fire Survival Plan http://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/resources/bush-fire-survival-plan
It could make the difference between the preservation or loss of precious lives and property.
School Zones
As the kids start school this week, it’s a timely reminder to also pay special care when approaching school zones.
School children are some of the most vulnerable people on the road and 40km/h school zones are an important way to keep them safe as they make their way to and from school.
We know a car that hits a pedestrian at 50km/h is twice as likely to kill someone as a vehicle travelling at 40km/h, and casualties in school zones have dropped by around 30 per cent since they were introduced.
Most school zones in NSW operate from 8am to 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm, but a small number operate at different times.
School zones with different operating times have different coloured signage and operating hours clearly displayed – be sure to take note of these and play your part in keeping our kids safe.
Arts Scholarships Open
A reminder that the Young Regional Artist Scholarship (YRAS) is now open.
With 100 scholarships of $10,000, the program provides a leg-up to talented young artists, helping them to develop a career path.
Applications close on 20 February www.arts.nsw.gov.au
20 Day Challenge
Last Sunday I concluded my #20dayGoFundChallenge delivering over $11.6 Million throughout the electorate in 20 days.
That’s around $582,000 per day.
The great news is, that during the 20 days, I have lobbied and been successful for even MORE funding that I will continue to deliver over the next few weeks.
Stay tuned.....
