Fine tuning
THERE'S no doubt that the opening of the Lake Wallace reserve to caravanners has been a popular boost to local tourism and the area was swarming with visitors over the holiday period (a lot of them are still there). Council staff had done a great job in maintaining the area as a local showplace but it's a pity that some solution can't be found in keeping the amenities block open longer rather than lock up in the early evening. The camping was intended for self contained mobile homes and the like but plenty of casual campers also drop in for an overnight stay and they too have needs. The result is a less than pleasant prospect for the environment. Also needed is some signage appealing to drivers to slow down to avoid creating clouds of fine dust from the unsealed roads around the lake. Most are conscious of the problem but there are others who either don't think or don't care.

Deja vu
SEEMS like it could be another bumpy ride through the decision making processes in Lithgow Council this year. When council met in a special meeting this week it was again personalities and politics and the resignation of a councillor brought discontent into focus. Residents will have an opportunity to express their feelings at the ballot box in March when there will be at least two vacancies up for grabs.
Eyecatching
NOW that most of us are back at work after the Summer break it might be a good idea for someone to remove the litter — including a Christmas wreath — thrown onto the roof of the Queen Elizabeth Park band rotunda. It's exactly in the line of sight of the path through the justifiably famous avenue of roses and does detract from the experience.
What now?
WONDER what happened with the Telstra Shop's announced plan to relocate to Lithgow's Main Street. It was announced that the present shop at Valley Plaza would close at the end of November to prepare for the move. Two months later the Telstra Shop hasn't moved and there appears little evident action in the stated new location. So what gives?
