Oberon Tarana Heritage Rail’s grant, worth $9900, is for re-roofing a heritage railway carriage that is planned to form the backbone of eventual train operations on the line.
Last year’s Transport Heritage Grants Program awarded more than $165,000 to not-for-profit organisations to fund projects to conserve and restore heritage assets and educate the community about the history of transport in NSW.
Mr Toole praised Oberon Tarana Heritage Rail for helping to preserve local transport heritage.
“Oberon Tarana Heritage Rail’s successful application shows how passionate our local community is about ensuring this history is kept alive and well,” Mr Toole said.
“I understand the quality of applications received this year was extremely high, so we’re very pleased and excited that a project in our local community proved to be successful.
“I would like to extend my congratulations to all successful applicants who should feel very proud of their achievement.
“I would encourage anyone eager to preserve our transport past to throw their hat in the ring in this year’s round.”
Oberon Tarana Heritage Rail Inc also has a gofundme.com fundraising campaign to get the planned tourism operation up and running.
