Deadly potential
THERE was much publicity after New Year of deaths and maiming from illegal fireworks; and irrespective of where they were obtained the use of fireworks is illegal inn NSW without a permit.

Which brings us to Lithgow. In the valley there were some heavy duty fireworks being discharged not only in the lead up but on New Years Eve.
And there's nothing new in this; it's been going on for years at various locations but mainly it seems around the Hermitage Flat/Albert Street area.
It might be fun (and a nuisance) but events of the past week have shown that it's fun that can quickly turn deadly.
Not too bright
AS reported elsewhere there was a more stupid than usual example of P Plater madness this week.
During Tuesday night, as the story goes, a freshly minted P Plater thought it would be fun to 'bulldoze' a row of garbage and recycling bins behind shops in Main Street Lane.
Some of the Council bins were wrecked in the tangled pile that had obviously involved a degree of speed and garbage was all over the roadway.
It was his first day on the road without an instructor.
Now that wasn't very bright but he then confirmed his status as a five star dope by bragging on Facebook – he didn't realise he was already on security camera.
The scary thing is that we're sharing the roads with these dills.
Perhaps the Minister should introduce mandatory IQ tests as part of the licence tests.
It would surely ease traffic congestion as well.
Our real issue
OVER lunch in Bathurst during the holidays we chatted with a new resident who had just moved there from Sydney.
"My first choice was Lithgow," he told us, "and I had even begun house hunting.
“But I could only find part time work in Lithgow so Bathurst became my new home."
And, he added, '..I'm not missing Sydney one bit.'
There's a message there but it's unfortunately not something we didn't already know.
