The Lithgow Workmens Club’s annual fashion parade on Melbourne Cup Day showcased some great outfits and showed that the focus of the day isn’t only on Flemington.
Twenty-four competitors entered the event including four men.
Fascinators, hats, handbags and shoes – the accessories on the day are just as important as the main outfit itself and it can often come down to the details when the field was as strong as it was this year.
After two run throughs of entrants, the judges - Lithgow councillor Maree Statham, Cheryl Schram and the Workies’ Julie Rushworth still had a difficult time deciding the winner.
Linda Crowe managed to get past the post in the winning place, just ahead of second-placed Angie Cambourn.
Straying from tradition, Linda sealed her win with a black pantsuit paired with eye-catching hot pink accessories.
Third place went to Ann Conaghan.
Paul Vanstone stood out among the male entrants with his style and hat and got first prize.
First prize was a whopping prize a $500, with second place getting $300 and third $100.
The separate men’s prize was to the value of $30.
