Supported by Lithgow Oberon Landcare and Lithgow City Council, all community members are invited to come along and plant some native plants this Friday at Lake Pillans Wetland Reserve and Blast Furnace Park.
Planting efforts from the day will contribute toward National Tree Day statistics (Australia's biggest community tree-planting).
'Learn and Grow' aims to provide an opportunity for everyone to get outside and into the environment, feel positive about ourselves, learn something about traditional connections to country, and interact in a positive and hands-on way with our local natural landscapes.
The 'Learn and Grow' Mental Health Month Tree Planting event is being held Friday at Lake Pillans Wetland from 11am to 2pm.
National Tree Day is usually held in winter across Australia - but in Lithgow it is held in spring to ensure that plants are given the best chance for survival.
Volunteers need to register upon arrival (although RSVP before-hand appreciated for catering purposes). Bring a drink; wear sensible shoes, broad-brimmed hat and sun-smart clothes. Ample parking available in Blast Furnace carpark.
For more information email Rechelle.Fisher@lithgow.nsw.gov.au or phone 0419 795 781.
The ‘Learn and Grow’ family fun day will start with a Welcome to Country followed by a traditional smoking ceremony and tree planting ceremony.
A barbecue lunch will be provided with performances by local school choirs and dancers.
