More than 100 cyclists riding for CAN4CANCER, a Commonwealth Bank initiative supported by charity Tour de Cure, stopped by Lithgow Public School on Monday while riding all the way from Orange to Parramatta.

In a special assembly, those making the trek presented the school with a cheque for $1500 to go towards supporting students to live a fit, happy and healthy lifestyle.
Clive Van Horen, one of the cyclists who works for Commonwealth Bank, said the riders had helped raised just under a million dollars for cancer research during their 300 kilometre ride from country to city.
“Cancer touches everybody’s lives,” Mr Van Horen said.
“The message we’re trying to teach these kids is that one in three cancers are preventable.”
Mr Van Horen said he was surprised at just how generous people were after talking to them while on the trail.
“We’ve had people stop us on the side of the street and just hand us money for donations, it’s pretty amazing,” he said.
Since 2007, Tour de Cure has raised $25 million to fund 252 cancer research, support and prevention projects and Commonwealth Bank has been associated with the charity for the past five years.
Tour de Cure is one of Australia’s biggest charities and has helped fund several breakthroughs in cancer research.
