Year 11 students Lauren Corney, Dalton Neville and Callum Woodrow are a seasoned team who have been represented La Salle in debating since year 7.
The trio had previously won the Junior Western Region Competition in 2014.
Despite an early 5.30am start, the La Sallians were firing on all cylinders and they secured a victory over reigning champions MacKillop College Bathurst in the first round.
Lauren, Dalton and Callum continued their streak of victories throughout the day thanks to their well constructed debates.
They were triumphant over Red Bend College Forbes and finally the home team, St. Johns.
The team’s excellent public speaking skills, along with well-honed teamwork and quick thinking were commended by teachers on the day.
Their victory earns them a place in November’s Catholic Schools’ Debating State Finals in Sydney, where they will test their skills against the top teams from across New South Wales to compete for the State Championship.
A special thank you must go to Ms Maria Crilley, who has mentored the debating team over the years.
La Salle wishes Lauren, Callum and Dalton the best of luck at the State Finals.
