The result of painstaking research and hours of hard work, the book details the journeys of those who worked at Portland’s Cement Works.
Newspaper reports, illustrations and more fill the pages as the book spans 1901 to 1993, and gives an intimate look at those who lost of their lives working courageously in extremely dangerous conditions.
President of Portland Tidy Towns Roger Taig said the book is a way of keeping the Portland’s history alive for future generations.
“It’s important that we honour the memory of the workers who died there,” he said.
