The proposed project consists of a pipeline and water treatment plant.
The pipeline will direct water currently discharged from Springvale Mine into the upper Coxs River and redirect it to a treatment facility located at Mt Piper Power Station to be treated and used for power station cooling.
This project will enable compliance with the water quality conditions in the Springvale consent given last year.
Centennial Coal’s Executive GM External Affairs Katie Brassil said the project would secure more than 600 local jobs.
“Mt Piper power station uses water in its cooling processes and the cooperation of both parties will allow a beneficial reuse of the mine water.”

Invincible
Castlereagh Coal has submitted a Environmental Assessment (EA) for a project which has identified an area south of the Invincible Mine at Cullen Bullen which contains coal resources.
The EA is on public exhibition and open for submissions until November 8.
Called the “Southern Extension Project”, if approved the project would provide speciality nut coal to Manildra Group’s—Castlereagh Coal’s parent company— Shoalhaven Starches plant at Bomaderry and thermal coal to local power stations.
Castlereagh Coal Project Manager Brett Moore encouraged members of the public to make submissions to the EA while it was on display.
“We highly value local community members’ interests in the Southern Extension Project,” Mr Moore said.
