Built to last in the 1960s and still going strong, the five locomotives were given a makeover including some fancy paintwork done at Lithgow Railway Workshop.
Streamliners 2016 organiser and SSR locomotive driver Bernie Baker has put together the event which has attracted attention locally and internationally with plenty of fans of the streamliners expected to make it to the first running of the event.
As the streamliners departed, with Mr Baker driving accompanied by trainee Mat Elsmore, a couple of German streamliner enthusiasts were on hand to photograph the occasion and said they had traveled to Australia to attend the weekend’s event.
Southern Shorthaul Railroad’s Mat Elsmore is possibly the youngest locomotive trainee in NSW and Australia at the age of 17, Mr Barker said. Mat was born in Lithgow but now lives in Parkes.
