Students, teachers and families packed St Patrick’s Church for the traditional Graduation Mass and certificate presentation to the academic and sponsored award winners.
The Year 12 students invited former principal Mr Emms to attend and presented him with a small gift. In a special moment, the entire school clapped continuously from the time he was asked to accept the gift til he sat back in his seat.
It was a true show of appreciation and respect from not only the year 12's, but the entire school.
An address was given by school captains Emily Bennett and Kurt Vanstone, which best summed up the experiences of the entire cohort.
“Over the past year we've longed for this day! Looking forward to freedom, new experiences, no more homework, an end to school,” they said.
“It’s so attractive, especially when there was an assignment due or an exam to study for.
“Yet today, it has finally arrived, we think about the last few months with a touch of sadness. Wishing for perhaps one more day.
“One more day to hang out with the friends we consider family, in the place that has become almost our second home.
“If only we could know that these are the "good old days" before they actually become the "good old days”.
“Today we write the last page in this chapter of our lives.
“And so, here we are.
“Our last official day of school.
“In two short weeks we will be putting all that hard work to the test and sitting our HSC exams.
“It's been quite a ride.
“Harder than we ever imagined when we started Year Eleven.
“There have been endless challenges and tantrums, and scrolls way too many scrolls.
“But we've grown and changed, and yes, we’ve finally made it”.
Year 12 now have a few nervous weeks before the culmination of their schooling, the HSC examinations begin.
La Salle Academy wish the Year 12 Class of 2016 the best of luck in their upcoming exams, and in all their future endeavours.
Congratulations also go to the school’s award winners.
