New kids on the block
SO the tumult and the shouting dies and the victors are about to begin their deliberations around what in a more civilised age was known as the aldermanic table. With the dust finally settling on the Lithgow Council election it is clear there will be a significant proportion of new faces gracing the chamber, probably as many as six. With so many candidates this year it was inevitable that voting would be scattered all over the place.

Although nothing is certain until the final bell tolls, at the time of preparing these saintly musings it seems that Deputy Mayor Ray Thompson won’t survive the cut. He has been a steadying and well considered influence in council. Also missing after many years in council will be Joe McGinnes who served a largely successful term as Mayor back in the 80s but who more recently will be remembered for controversy including dummy spits and walkouts. Hopefully the new council will finally settle down to responsible and effective local government without the hobbles of personality politics. Good luck.
New on the street
IT’S always good to see new development in the Lithgow CBD and the latest addition is already creating an impression. An organic food and coffee cafe has opened in the past week in eastern Main Street, in premises that had been vacant for years. The site was most recently home to the Gearside family printing works; prior to that was well known as an Eather family butchery. At the other end of the CBD a refurbished Supercheap Auto is presenting a bright welcome the every expanding ‘bottom’ end of the strip.
A hole lot of mess
THE usually wet Winter and early Spring has played havoc with our roads and both Council and the RMS will have to play catch up. Our urban streets and highway currently have more potholes than the Valley Plaza car park, difficult as that may be to believe. Meantime just of town the RMS has begun stripping and resealing the west bound highway lanes around Tunnel Hill AGAIN! So, how many times is this?
