And it’s an important decision that affects us all in Greater Lithgow. This year, though, voters face an unprecedented dilemma through the uncertain future of current councillor Martin Ticehurst.
The often controversial councillor is in familiar territory as he awaits the outcome of his latest local government tribunal hearing for alleged questionable behaviour in council. The tribunal has delayed a long awaited verdict, creating concern and consternation on the election scene, and should Cr Ticehurst be re-elected ratepayers face an costly by election.
Just why the verdict is taking so long is a mystery to all concerned. In the meantime the spite, the infighting and the dirty tricks across the local government scene continue to the bitter end.
Seasons change
So Winter has departed both according to the calendar and the evidence of the already emerging blossoms. But was it really our coldest Winter in recent memory as many long term residents claim? Our true Winter of discontent?
Perhaps not by official figures but certainly with the rain and the constant wind chill blowing through the valley it was not a happy experience even for those of us who have learned to enjoy the brisk months.The big wet had been correctly forecast and the constant dampness didn’t help.

IT’S no secret that Lithgow’s QE Park is haunted by some of the laziest litterers anywhere. But contributing to the poor image in a big way is the battered remains of a lounge that someone has dumped on the embankment beside the walkway overlooking the park’s nursery and garden staff area.
It would be nice to see the offender tracked down, so get to it. Meantime we may be attracting a better class of litterer; among the usual fast food rubbish this week was a discarded champagne bottle
