The result of years of hard work, the development is an investment by Black Gold’s management in the local community, and a clear show of commitment to the area.

The theme of the official opening was acknowledgement – of the hard work of Rob, Linda, their family and staff, of the role that mining plays in the local economy, and of the commitment of Centennial Coal to supporting local businesses.

All but one room in the new wing are named for Centennial Coal mines in the area, the exception being Baal Bone.

In his address to the crowd, Black Gold Cabins owner Robert Cluff underlined the importance of the support of businesses such as Centennial Coal throughout the cyclical nature of business – the good times as well as the not-so-good.

There was time for an element of fun at the event, with Centennial Coal founder and chairman Robert (Bob) Cameron  offered the key to officially open ‘Angus Place’ – a sign of hope for the future and an opportunity to voice the feelings of the community constructively.

After the rooms were officially opened, there was time for the official guests to have a look at the newest addition to Black Gold’s accommodation offerings, with all remarking upon the high standard of the work.

The opening was the first entry in a full agenda for Centennial, who were in town for the annual sustainability conference.

With over 70 attendees including representatives from Banpu, the Board and Senior Management, the conference is an opportunity to  opportunity to catch up on key updates in the business while also encouraging the cross pollination of issues and ideas across Centennial’s sites.
