Mr Emms has been a part of the school system for more than forty years and the announcement of his retirement earlier this week was met with sadness and gratitude by staff and students both past and present.
The announcement, posted on Facebook, was met with an outpouring of acknowledgement for Mr Emms.
“You have been a great principal and an all round approachable man at any time,” one person wrote.
“You were also a great teacher to many including me and my two girls.”
“A sad day, I'm sure, for all students at La Salle Academy,” wrote another.
“Education in the Lithgow area’s Catholic schools… has been so lucky to have you as a leader over the past years.”
Mr Emms is responsible for overseeing the trade training centre’s construction and the school’s refurbishment among a host of other achievements.
He also spent time as a Group 10 umpire and is a keen traveller.
He’s also been described by staff at La Salle Academy as an avid cricketer.
Bathurst Diocese Schools Consultant Vince Connor is now acting in Mr Emms’ role as interim principal until end of the term.
Mr Connor thanked Mr Emms on behalf of all the students and staff for his dedication to giving students the best possible education.
“We’re grateful for the many years of dedicated service Mr Emms has given to students and families of La Salle Academy,” Mr Connor said.
The sentiment is shared by all staff and students that have had the pleasure of working with and being guided by Mr Emms during his time at the school.
Mr Connor said the school will soon start the recruiting process for a new principal.
An announcement on the school’s new principal is to be made some time in Term 4.
The new principal’s start date is yet to be announced.
Staff at the Lithgow Mercury wish Mr Emms all the best in his future endeavours and the same to La Salle Academy.
