Good news week
THE announcement this week that EnergyAustralia has received as many as 14 firm expressions of interest in utilising the now redundant Wallerawang Power Station for new industry is the most encouraging news for the local area in some time. The column understands the EOIs included the large area of flat industrial land adjacent to the Castlereagh Highway which at one time years ago was touted for an aluminium plant and later a silicon plant, neither of which — perhaps fortunately with the benefit of hindsight — went ahead.

It is no secret that Lithgow Council has been working closely with Energy Australia for months and it must be pleasing to councillors and officers that there are now promising developments.
Changing places
ONCE again the ‘lower’ end of Main Street is expanding as the growth centre of the Lithgow CBD. The latest development for that part of town is work under way on a large premises next door to the Wollemi Cafe for expansion for LJ Hooker Real Estate which has been surprisingly empty for some years after an employment placement facility moved.
Further up in central Main Street Lithgow Gifts is relocating across the street to the vacant shop at the railway interchange entrance, opposite the Blue Bird Cafe. All part of an air of optimism in the CBD.
Rooling the night
LITHGOW Council may soon have to take some sort of action to control the nightly access of kangaroos each night to Queen Elizabeth Park. It is a problem that has developed only recently but there is roo poo everywhere and it’s not pleasant. The issue will be just what to do; culling would not seem an option at that location.
Perhaps it’s time for a ‘proper’ fence around the park to replace the outdated and ineffective installations around the southern and western boundaries. The ‘gate’ at the Hassans Walls Road/Peachman Avenue intersection is a relic of a long gone era. The roos only turn up at night so there’s no threat to daytime visitors but picnics amidst roo poo aren’t ideal.
