Dusty is part of a wildlife breeding program that has run out of Secret Creek for many years, helping to protect endangered species such as quolls, rare wallabies and purebred dingoes.

According to Mr Evans most dingoes on the east coast of Australia now have dog genetics in them.

“A lot of breeders like myself now keep purebreds and only let them breed with other purebreds,” he said.

Dingoes kept at the sanctuary are taken to wildlife parks across the country during school holidays and even join in special functions at Secret Creek’s restaurant.

“We’ve had a wedding here before where the bride had photos taken with our white dingo.”

Mr Evans said a large part of keeping dingoes at the sanctuary is educating people that they are not menaces.

“They’re a top-order predator that we need in our environment … half the job is just getting that message out.”
