Kids from a number of school years tested themselves last week in one of the most famous circus arts as they look to become part of the ghoulish performing troupe, the “Towering Terrors”.

Shuffling up and down the school’s gym on a variety of new legs, students took some time getting to grips with such a unique form of movement.

Offered to students for free by the Country Arts Support Program and Arts OutWest, students are taught how to walk on stilts by professional circus performer, Tahmour Bloomfield, who has previously performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Those taking part will also be taught by drama professional, Catherine Lockley, in the arts of character development, street theatre techniques and creating costumes.

While still in the early stages of training, and with many of them taking a number of falls, one student exclaimed they had already planned to run away to the circus.

Students involved will attend a number of other workshops in the lead up to this year’s Halloween to refine their craft, and come October will hopefully be able to put on a stunning show for what has become one of the city’s biggest events.
