LAST weekend’s mild weather brought out the best in the Storm junior rugby league players.
Playing at a variety of venues, the players’ performances matched that of the good weather.
However, not all the results were as welcome as what the coaches may have liked.

The D and J Ford-Kings Engineering Lithgow Storm were on the road again last week against competition leaders Orange Bloomfield.
Bloomfield showed why they are up the top of the ladder, displaying a powerful running game and near perfect completion rate to lead 22-nil at the break.
Storm hit back with a try to centre Loghan Roy in the second half to trail 28-6, however Bloomfield came home over the top of the Storm side to win 46-6.
Another man of the match performance was put in by front rower Tom Morris, who in a tough match stood out with an equally tough defensive effort mixed n with plenty of hit ups.
Jon Markowski was also a standout in the forwards, playing his usual tough, no nonsense style of play.
Five eighth John Bird had another strong game as did Ben Inzitari at half back, who unfortunately had to retire early in the match with a cut to his ankle.
Kyle Kenworthy ran the ball hard on the fringes, troubling the Tigers defence.
Centre Loghan Roy continued his great form, with a standout performance in both attack and defence and was rewarded with the team’s only try.

The Professional Real Estate-sponsored Storm played Cowra at home and came away with a good 26-22 win over the Magpies.
Like last week against Bathurst St Pats the boys started off slowly, allowing Cowra to score two quick tries but once they worked themselves into the game they started to complete their sets without making errors.
This resulted in them posting three good tries before half time which gave them a handy 18-12 lead.
After half time the boys again defended their line well and with the extra confidence they kept to their game plan and finished with a great win.
Try’s for Storm went to Ethan Van Der Velden (2) and one each to Tanvi Singh, Jayden Milliss and Ryan O’Donnell.
Ethan also kicked two conversions and Tanvi one.
For the Storm three points and the players player went to prop Ryan O’Donnell who scored a try and didn’t stop all game.
Two points went to the other front rower Jayden Milliss who ran the ball up well and had a strong game in defence and one point went to lock Charlie Bray who stepped up again in defence all game.
The points were very hard to give out as all the boys put in a great team effort.
This weekend the boys have the bye which probably came around at the wrong time of the year because they would have liked to keep a roll on.
The next game is in two weeks time, June 11, and is away to Orange against Orange Bloomfield.
This will be another hard game but with a week off they should be pumped to keep improving on their game.

The Henry Plant Hire side had a great 36-12 win against Eglinton.
Tries went to Fran DiFranco, Eli Morris, Tallon Egan and blockbusting front rower Callum Tierney while Matty Burfitt kicked a superb goal.
Brayden Spittles, Bryson Jones, Jaiden Healey and Dan Kable were awesome in both attack and defence while Cody Green and Stu McGill tried hard all game.
Storm’s best, however, were captain Cian ORegan, Callum Tierney, Tully Howell and Eli Morris.
The under 10s who backed up — Tully, Billy Rogerson and Jye Rowe — were tremendous.

The under 8s were tremendous again and they continue to improve every week.
They are strong defenders and move wonderfully with the ball.
The team consists of Kayleigh Baxter, Jai Osbourne, Ben Achurch, Jai Spittles, Connor McPhee, Connor Thompson, Arch Morris, Tom Gordon, Braith Morcom, JJ Zarka, Brayden Rowe and Nic Vadkeri.

Storm had another great game up against Wang Fierce.
Despite the strong defence shown by Fierce, Storm were able to cross the line several times with Lincoln Hutchison scoring a try and Riley Denley, Jamie Falls and Charlie Evans all scoring two tries each.
The boys also showed great defence throughout, shutting down Wang’s attack many times.
It was a great game with both coaches walking away extremely happy with the boys’ efforts.
