CHILDREN from both Lithgow and Portland joined kids all across the country on Wednesday for National Simultaneous Storytime. In libraries, schools and bookshops across Australia, kids were treated to a reading of the same story at the same time, encouraging a love of reading.

This year's chosen book, "I Got This Hat", by Jol and Kate Temple was read aloud to local children by mayor Maree Statham at Lithgow Library and Learning Centre.
A number of children even made their own hats during craft activities before the event, preparing themselves for a morning where they were treated to not only a story but trying on quirky headgear as well.
Across the country, people such as Federal Education Minister, Simon Birmingham, read the story to children and famous NRL players made appearances at events in New South Wales and Victoria.
Now in its 16th successful year, National Simultaneous Storytime takes an Australian children's book to promote literacy, the value of books and promote local Australian writers and publishers.
