A MAN faces a payout of almost $7000 in fines and a ban on animal ownership after being prosecuted in Lithgow Court on animal neglect charges.
The RSPCA brought the charges in the latest court against Peter David Taylor, of Lithgow, who pleaded guilty before Magistrate Michael Allen to five counts of animal cruelty.
The court was told that the RSPCA had raided the defendant’s property on two occasions in 2014 and on the second occasion seized all of the dogs for veterinary care.
The court was told that an RSPCA had visited the property in May 19 2014 after a complaint of animal cruelty.
There were numerous animals on the property and several of the dogs were underweight.
One Pomeranian had a matted coat while a poodle had overgrown nails.
On August 27 the RSPCA accompanied by police again visited the property and found several dogs crammed into small cages that had not been cleaned and leaving them very little room to move.
Some cages contained up to four dogs in cages that were less than a third of the required size.
Outside there were two German Shepherds in separate small and dirty enclosures, one with no water and in thin body condition.
There were several thin goats in pens with ‘very dirty water’.
The RSPCA statement said that subsequent veterinary examination revealed a range of problems including poor body condition, serious dental disease in one dog and another with ingrown dewclaws.
Two dogs had worm infestations.
Magistrate Allen fined Mr Taylor $2500, ordered him to pay the RSPCA $4480.35 in boarding and veterinary costs and banned him from owning any animal for 10 years.
