Another big entry is on hand to honour him and support this great cause.
The walk will take place on Sunday May 29 with the event now being in its ninth year.
It has raised a considerable sum of money for cancer research and has grown since its beginning when Barry and Laurie dared each other to walk from Wallerawang to Portland.
Such is its growth that the popular event attracted a record of more than 800 walkers last year and more importantly raised money for a very worthy cause.
The sudden passing of Laurie will have no doubt be clouded with a touch of sadness, but he would most certainly want it to proceed and will be with the walkers in spirit during their journey.
The walkathon will this year depart from the Portland RSL Sport and Recreation Club at 11am, and proceed to the Royal Hotel Wallerawang, where participants will gather for refreshments, a well earned drink.
It is also proposed to organise entertainment.
Indications are that there will be once again a large contingent of walkers to support Laurie and Barry with the communities of Portland, Wallerawang, Lithgow and district showing their support by sponsoring the event.
The Wallerawang-Portland road will be closed once again between 11am and 3pm and organisers thank officers and staff of Lithgow City Council, State Emergency
Services and police for their support and co-operation.
Sponsor forms are located at various business houses around the respective towns or you can contact Pam (6351 4932), Barry (6355 7023), Bruce (6355 5073) or John (0409 345 752).
Buses will depart from Royal Hotel Wallerawang from 8.30am on Sunday May 29 to convey walkers to Portland for the walk.
Many thanks to the Donnybrook Hotel and GoodEarth for sponsoring this service.
Among the fundraising efforts are a raffle with good prizes donated by Ned’s Mowing Service, Portland Newsagency and Portland RSL Sport and Recreation Club.
Tickets are available at various outlets in Portland and will be also available outside Portland Newsagency on Saturday May 21 and at the sausage sizzle courtesy of Williams Meats the following Saturday May 28.
The support of Williams Meats and Portland Newsagency with the sausage sizzle and raffle sponsors is much appreciated
