IT is not often that you get a choir to entertain you and then sing happy birthday to you.
This, though, was the case for Mavis Pattison when she celebrated her 100th birthday.
Mavis, her family, staff and her fellow residents from Tabulam Cottage in Portland were entertained by the choir of Portland Central School and the children’s efforts were met with warm applause.
Mavis was born a century ago in Wollongong and then later moved to Summer Hill, Sydney where she spent most of her teenage years.
She then moved to Portland where she married Roley and raised four children — Robert (deceased), Alan, Ron (deceased) and Geoffrey and has been a popular member of the district for many years.
Mavis lived at her family home on the Wang Road and only moved into Tabulam Cottages three weeks ago.
She enjoyed her birthday with her family and friends and was very appreciative of the music that the students of Portland Central provided.
There must be something in the water around the Portland district as Mavis is one of a number of residents who has made it to the 100 year milestone in recent times.
The cake was cut, passed around and everyone enjoyed a lovely day.
