IN a career that has spanned a number of decades, Midwest axeman Glen Ryan was honoured by the Australian Axeman’s Association with his induction into the Australian Axeman’s Hall of Fame.
It is a long overdue honour with Ryan giving years of service to the sport dating back to 1958.
He has continued to be the backbone of the sport in this area ever since.
Glen can be seen around the local shows carting logs, setting them up, acting as MC, timekeeper and just about every other position on the day.
He has been a real role model for the younger axemen and has a long list of wins and titles over his career.
The induction was held in Tasmania with Glen saying: “It was an excellent function and it was great to share it with my family.
“Woodchopping has been a big part of my life and also my family.
“We have had some magnificent axemen in the district with some world title holders.
“Hopefully the younger generation will continue to support this sport.”
