Whether it’s slipping down the water slide at Wallerawang, rocketing along in the annual Billy Cart Race at Rydal or relaxing in Queen Elizabeth Park with local band, Rabebi, everyone will find an activity to enjoy.
“Last year was difficult for many in Lithgow,” Lithgow mayor Maree Statham said.
“Australia Day is an opportunity to come together and celebrate how we have all pulled together and a chance to start off 2016 in the community spirit Lithgow is so famous for.
“I look forward to sharing this day with you and enjoying the exciting activities that have been organised by the communities.”
This year in Lithgow join the community for an afternoon of lively family fun at Queen Elizabeth Park to celebrate Australia Day.
Warm up from 3pm with the Lithgow Highland Pipe Band and free damper and tea.
The official Australia Day ceremony will start at 4pm.
The Ambassador, Ms Sarah Garnett, will give the Australia Day Address, the NSW Local Citizenship Awards will be presented and new Australian Citizens will be officially welcomed.
Following the ceremony relax until 7pm with a free barbecue and music by local band Rabebi.
The kids can go wild on the free rides, Big Baller Wipeout and Lil Pirate Ship, and there will be craft and circus activities, coffee and ice cream to finish off your Australia Day.
Lithgow Aquatic Centre will have free entry all day for those wishing to cool down and enjoy a splash.
Wolgan Street in Portland will be full of music, rides and markets from 10.30am onwards.
The official ceremony will be held at noon with the Australia Day Ambassador attending and Australia Day Awards presented.
Festivities begin at the Wallerawang Bowling Club on Mackenzie Street at 10.30am.
During the day there will be sports and art activities, rides, displays, a barbecue and a waterslide.
The Lithgow Highland Pipe Band performs at 1.30pm followed by the Ambassador’s address.
The day will be wrapped up with entertainment by the West Brothers beginning at 3pm and relaxing everyone into the evening.
The ever popular Billy Cart Races (must be home made and helmets are essential) begin at Rydal at 4pm followed by the flag raising at 5pm.
The excitement continues with a tug a war, thong throwing, yabbie races and a free sausage sizzle.
