TO complement and complete their unit of work on Explorers, Year 4/5 at Zig Zag Public School went on a three day excursion to Lutanda at Mt Victoria.
Along the way, they stopped off at Hassans Walls Lookout to view the rugged mountains and then again at Mt York to see where Blaxland, Wentworth and Lawson stopped during their expedition.
At Lutanda, the students participated in explorer-type activities including archery, navigation, shelter building, bush cooking and campfires, tracking, initiatives and co-operative games.
The students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were very well behaved. This is what the students thought about their excursion.
“Lutanda, what a beautiful place.
Kangaroos are hopping around everywhere.
Birds are singing all the time.
Staff were always trying to help.
Soft, green grass.
Nice cabins with bunk beds, yummy food.
Great place with fun activities.”
Gracey
“On our excursion to Lutanda, we learnt about explorers and how hard it was for them to cross the Blue Mountains.
We learnt amazing things like how to cook damper and dough boys.
The food there was delicious.
All in all it was a great three days.” Samara
“Last week we went to Lutanda, Mt Victoria.
I loved it because the food was delicious and the activities were fun and exciting.
My favourite activity was shelter making.”
Charlie
“Last week we went to Lutanda, it was SO fun!
My absolute favourite activity was the games.
Now if you don’t know what I mean by “the games”, there were fly-balls, human target and eliminations ball.
All those games were absolutely amazing and I enjoyed them a lot.
We also got to stay for two nights and three days.”
Riki
“Lutanda; as you drive in you park your car near a lush green oval with a volley ball court.
Your room could be upstairs or downstairs.
But I didn’t get a good night sleep.” Callum “Last week we went to Hassans Walls Lookout, Mt Victoria and then Lutanda where we stayed for two nights.
We all had so much fun.
My favourite activity was archery where our Library Teacher, Mrs Wallace, fluked her shot.
She hit the balloon that we all missed.
It was so fun.” Alaqua
